Even though he was the last one to join the group, his nature quickly led his friends Tagoe and Malcolm to consider him the de facto leader of The Plutos. Rufus is a strong, brave and daring teenager with a strong sense of commitment towards his foster family, called The Plutos.
MATEO AND RUFUS SKIN
Not much is known about Rufus' physical appearance, other that he is quite fit and athletic and has brown skin and a shaved head. He then returns to a park which he and Mateo were fond of to await his own death. Rufus is devastated by the loss of his Last Friend, but finds the strength to return to Mateo's father to tell him about their last day. They fall asleep, but Mateo wakes up before Rufus and decides to make some tea, which proves to be fatal as the kitchen stove explodes, killing Mateo. Eventually, after they grew much closer, Mateo kisses Rufus after they performed karaoke together.Īvoiding revenge from Peck thanks to Mateo who saves Rufus' life, the boys return to Mateo's apartment, have fun and lay in bed, declaring their strong love for each other. He notices that Mateo (who did not disclose his sexual orientation on his Last Friend profile, unlike Rufus) seems interested in him, but chooses to let Mateo act on it in his own time. Rufus accompanies Mateo to say his goodbyes to his father and his best friend, making Mateo stronger and braver as the hours pass. Rufus meets with Mateo at the latter's apartment, and they quickly befriend each other despite being very different in personality.
Enraged, Rufus finds and assaults Peck, beating him bare hands until he receives a call from Death-Cast, a company able to predict the death of individuals, who tells him that he has less than 24 hours to live.īeing forced to flee from his premature funeral after Peck calls the police on him, Rufus signs in on The Last Friend app, through which he makes contact with Mateo Torrez, who is also doomed to die in the following hours. He dates fellow Pluto Aimee DuBois for a time, but she leaves him for another boy, Peck, who soon begins to spread lies about Rufus. Rufus comes out as bisexual to his foster family and friends, who all accept it rather easily. He is brought into a foster family, and he and his adoptive siblings soon call themselves The Plutos. Rufus lost his family at a young age after his parents and his sister drowned in the Hudson River, a tragedy that Rufus himself witnessed, leaving him scarred with a fear of water.
